Swimming in waterfalls, swimming with elephants, feeding monkeys or "just" taking a walk in the jungle, all these and many more will attract you to these parks. The most famous and beautiful of them is Erawan Park. Another reason to travel to Thailand is the weather, beaches and beautiful romantic islands. The weather here is tropical and is divided into dry and rainy seasons. There is no bad time to travel to Thailand. You can come here all year round, only from June to October it rains more.

What would it be like to spend our vacation in Thailand if we didn't indulge in a **Thai massage**. You don't even have to look for massage offers, they will literally approach you step by step. Thai massage is essentially an art. It is a combination of yoga and massage, where the body and soul come together. The recommended massage time is at least 90 minutes. ## The capital of Thailand

The capital of Thailand is Bangkok, or the city of sins. With its 8 million inhabitants, it is also the most populous city in the country and also the center of finance and trade in Thailand. In history, Bangkok has served as a trading post. This has been the case since the 15th century. At the end of the 19th century, the city was greatly influenced by modernization from the west, it became the center of rebellion and coups. ## King of Thailand

Maha Vatchiralongkon Bodindradebajavarangkun or Rama X. is the tenth king of Thailand from the Chakra dynasty since 13th October 2016. Rama X. is the only son of Rama IX. and Queen Sikirit born on 28th July 1952.

The king was married a total of three times. He has an only daughter from his first marriage. His second marriage brought him a total of five descendants, including four sons and one daughter. After the divorce, Princess Yuvadhida, his second wife, moved to Britain with her children. Rama X. then kidnapped his daughter from this marriage back to Thailand, the remaining sons were rejected by the king after the divorce. From the third marriage, King Rama X has his last son.

## Flag of Thailand

The flag of Thailand or tricolor consists of five stripes in red, white, blue, white, red. The bandwidth ratio is 1:1:2:1:1. In history, blue resembled an ally during World War I. The main one was France, whose flag also has a tricolor blue-red-white. According to modern interpretation, it symbolizes the kingdom. Red is a symbol of shed blood for its acquisition and subsequent freedom. White represents the purity of the nation and Buddhism. In the past, an elephant was depicted on the national flag, as Thailand was often nicknamed the Land of the White Elephant. ## Population of Thailand

At the last census in 2018, Thailand had a population of 69.2 million. The metropolis of Bangkok is home to 14 million, accounting for more than 22% of the country's population. 75% of the population is Thai. Other ethnic groups approved by the Thai government include the Chinese, Malays, Khmer and Laos. There are a total of 62 approved ethnic groups. More than 93% of the population resorts to Buddhism, 5% are Muslims and 1% Christians.

## Emblem of Thailand

The main national emblem of Thailand is a symbol of freedom and a better morning, the mythical bird Garuda. An explanation of it exists in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology. The bird is depicted in red and gold.

The first Thai emblem was founded by Rama I. The red flag was supplemented by a white Buddhist wheel of law, decorated on the inside with a ring. Rama II then added a white elephant in the middle of the wheel. It was a symbol of rare elephants. Rama IV, during his reign, has removed the white wheel of law and only the elephant remained.

The first official emblem was established during the reign of Rama V in 1873. Today's form of the emblem has existed since 1910 when it was founded by Rama VI.

## Currency of Thailand

The only currency in Thailand is the Thai baht (bat). The world code is TBH. The best exchange rate in Thailand is Euros or US Dollars. Money can be exchanged at the airport, the exchange rate does not differ much from banks or exchange offices in cities. Tourist areas are richly equipped with ATMs, but there is a charge for them. Payment by card is not as common here as in Europe, as Thais pay large fees to the bank for it.

## Vaccination in Thailand

Thailand is one of the most popular tourist countries. There is a large accumulation of people here and hygiene habits are not the same as in other countries. As prevention, several vaccinations are recommended, but none is mandatory, so it is always at the discretion of each of us.

Jaundice A + B, typhoid fever and tetanus are recommended as basic vaccinations. Vaccination against typhoid fever is for about 3 years and its price is from USD 34.6 to 51.9. Every tourist should have been vaccinated against tetanus. Its protection lasts from approximately 10 to 15 years. Then revaccination is needed.

Other recommended vaccinations include rabies and malaria. Vaccination depends on the nature of the trip and the areas visited. Contact your general practitioner or travel medicine institute for more information.

## Security in Thailand

Security in Thailand is no different from most other countries. Actually, it is considered one of the safest Asian countries. Robberies rarely happen. It's a good idea to watch out for pickpockets at some night markets. Keep all money, passports and valuables well. However, this is recommended anywhere in the world.

As far as healthcare is concerned, it is at a very high level in Thailand. In remote parts of the country, medical facilities are less available, but everywhere there are very well-equipped pharmacies, where a lot of medicine is available without a prescription. It is recommended to use a repellent to prevent diseases caused by mosquito transmission.

As tap water is not drinkable in Thailand, it is recommended to drink only bottled water. The price of drinking water is around a few baht and can be found almost anywhere. Buying a filter bottle is a good idea.

Kaeng Khiao Wan - or green curry / spicy food, served with rice, based on coconut milk, green curry paste and ginger. Again, you can usually choose from meat / chicken, pork, shrimp, seafood /.

Kao Pad - this is fried rice, served with meat / according to choices /, vegetables. A mixture of spices and sauce gives the food a special taste.

Tom Yam - traditional Thai soup / can be served with shrimp or chicken /, is full of vegetables, flavored with lime, lemongrass and chili.

Som Tam - traditional papaya salad. The main ingredients are green papaya, carrots, dried small prawns and crushed nuts, suitable to drizzle with lemon juice and serve either alone or with rice.

## Food prices in Thailand

Food in Thailand is cheaper than in western countries, but it depends on which area of Thailand and in which facilities you will eat. If you are looking for smaller businesses or restaurants where the locals eat, you will pay for the food approximately THB 40 - 80, which is USD 1.2 - 2.5. In tourist areas, the price in restaurants is adapted to this average. However, even here you can find it cheaper than in the USA. Prices here are around USD 3.5 - 8.7.

## List of airports

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is located in the north of the island with the same name about 32 km from the capital Phuket City. Mostly charter flights from Europe and Russia or Asian low-cost airlines fly here.

Krabi Airport (KBV) is 11 km from the town of Krabi, which is a popular tourist destination. The airport handles domestic and Asian low-cost airline flights.

Koh Samui International Airport (USM) is 2 km from Chaweng Town on Koh Samui. The competition of airlines here is not great and the high prices of tickets correspond to this.

Chiang Mai Airport (CNX) is the main airport in northern part of the country and is located less than 3 km from the city of Chiang Mai itself. There are a lot of airlines flying to the airport and the price of tickets is very favorable.

### List of airports in Bangkok

There are two airports in Bangkok. The main international airport is Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. Most likely you will always fly here from Europe or other countries. The second airport is Don Mueang. It originally served as a military, but as Suvarnabhumi could not handle the influx of passengers, many flights moved to Don Mueang. It is mainly used to travel with low cost airlines.

#### Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK)

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) is an international airport located 30 km east of Bangkok. It is the largest airport in the country and also one of the largest in the world. Most flights from all over the world go here.

There are four ways to get to the city, Train, Taxi, Grab, Bus. The train, Airport Rail Link, is the fastest option, the journey takes approximately 45 minutes and runs every 10-15 minutes from the airport basement from six o'clock in the morning until midnight. It will take you to Phaya Thai Station, from where you can take the BTS, bus or taxi. If you need to change to the MRT metro, get off at Makkasan Station. The price of the train is THB 45.

The second option is to use a taxi. The price varies depending on the time of day and the distance traveled, it is approximately TBH 250 to 450. The customer also pays the entrance to the airport 50 THB and the toll on the highway. The journey takes 45 - 90 minutes. Prepare the address where you need to go in advance and check if the taxi driver has switched on the taximeter and is following it.

A third and very popular variant of experienced travelers is Grab. It is similar to Uber. You download the application, enter the address where you want to go and you will receive a fixed price in advance, which you will pay directly in the application using a card or the driver in cash. The price is THB 350 - 600. The last option is to use public transport, buses. There are many lines to the airport.

#### Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK)

Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK) is the second international airport near Bangkok. As it is originally a military airport, there is not yet well-established transport infrastructure, but there are still plenty of ways to get to the center.

As in Bangkok's main airport, there are options such as taxis and grab, it is the most convenient transportation to the city center. Prices are also quite similar.

The last option is orange buses. Tourists use lines A1 and A2. The price of the trip is THB 30. If you are going to the city center, it is recommended to change to the Mo Chit station, which is connected by the MRT metro and the BTS overhead set. The journey takes approximately 20 minutes. Both the A1 and A2 buses run from 7 am until midnight.

Line A1 runs every 12 minutes and line A2 runs every half hour.

Airports

### Koh Samui

Ko Samui is the third largest Thai island, very popular with tourists.

Accessibility here is very good as there is an international airport. Due to its diversity, endless beaches lined with palm trees, crystal clear water and tropical weather, it is nicknamed the island of love. At the end of the 20th century, the inhabitants of the island subsisted mainly on growing coconut and is now the main livelihood of all local tourism. There are almost 300 hotel resorts on this island and piles of restaurants, bars and holiday activities.

Famous beaches include Chaweng Beach and Lamai Beach. Chaweng Beach is 7 km long and most hotel complexes stretch along its length. It's a beautiful place, but busy and lively. The opposite is Lamai beach, which is one of the quieter and very romantic. Ko Samui is located near Ang Thong National Park. You can explore up to 42 islands here.

### Ko Tao

Ko Ta, nicknamed Turtle Island, is best known for its great snorkeling and diving. This is basically right on the shore of the island. There is excellent visibility in the sea and it is no coincidence to see, for example, a shark, barracuda, stingrays or dolphins. For scuba diving, Sail Rock is the best place, and for the less adventurous who just want to snorkel, there is Laem Thiam.

### Ko Samet

Ko Samet Island was uninhabited until the 1980s. Now crowds of tourists and mainland Thai people flow here, who come here mainly on weekends. The island lives a busy life and is suitable for young travelers or sun lovers, as it is the sunniest island in all of Thailand. Hai Sai Kaew or Ao Hin Khok are two beaches famous for their excellent atmosphere, long promenades, restaurants and bars. It is a paradise for young, or at least in the spirit of young, tourists.

### Ko Mak

Ko Mak is a small island located 40 km from the coast, newly explored by tourists. There are coconut and mandrake plantations. There is no nightlife on the island, there are no lively bars or restaurants. Ideal for families with children or for tourists looking for rest. The holiday is also suitable for active athletes, as the island offers many opportunities for water sports. Ko Mak is often visited by world filmmakers looking for beautiful and untouched beaches.

### Ko Lipe

Ko Lipe or the Thai Maldives. The water is crystal clear, white sand beaches and beautiful nature all around. It is a small island that is part of the Tarutao National Park. It is an island not yet discovered by tourists, a lot of bungalows are under construction, but this does not detract from the overall positive impression. The atmosphere here is calm, the locals are smiling and hospitable. An ideal island to escape from the world. Tarutao National Park is full of beautiful uninhabited islands, where you will be taken by boat for a ride for a few dollars. Be sure not to miss Ko Rawi or Ko Adang.

### Ko Chang

Ko Chang Island is the second largest in Thailand after Phuket. It is the main island of the national park with a total of 52 islets. Ko Chang is not much discovered by tourists yet, although it is a great pity. It has a lot to offer. Long white sandy beaches and beautiful nature all around. The island is divided by Mount Kaho Salak Phet into the east and the west. The eastern part is mainly home to locals and the hotel resorts are located in the west of the island, as there are a large number of beaches. If you prefer to explore the beautiful landscape, head over to the east where you will rarely find beaches.

Islands

The hot and humid season is approximately from March to June. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity is unbearable for most tourists. Only real heat lovers should come here at this time.

The rainy season lasts from about June to October. The soil is soft and widely used by farmers. Very short-lived monsoon showers mostly occur everyday in the afternoon, heading from the Indian Ocean.

The dry and cold seasons are not completely cold. Temperatures in this period reach an average of 30°C. This is the best time to visit Thailand. Between November - February / March. In addition, after a long period of rain, the landscape is green and beautifull.

## Weather in Bangkok

The weather in Bangkok is tropical with the influence of ocean monsoons. There are two periods, the cold and dry periods and the rainy season.

The dry season, which is also suitable for visiting the city, lasts from about November to March / April. During this period, there is a minimum of rain showers and humidity is also lower. The morning temperatures reach 24°C and the sun's rays drive it out of the sky until sunset.

The rainy season lasts from about May to October, with October being the rainiest month. Since Bangkok is in the bay, the monsoons do not affect it very strongly. It is usually cloudy with occasional rain. Apart from the more rainy October, the rest of the months for travel are also very acceptable.

## The most beautiful beaches in Thailand

The bay is characterized by limestone rocks and cliffs, picturesque islands and mangrove forests. One of the famous islands is James Bond Island, called Ko Tapu. A twenty-meter-high rock standing in the bay played in the Bond film A Man with a Golden Gun. However, the entry has also been prohibited since 1998.

### Phi Phi Archipelago

Until 2000, the almost unfamous area is now overflowing with tourists. Visibility with the film The Beach with Leonard Di Capri in the lead role made Phi Phi one of the most visited areas in Thailand. Despite the ever-increasing influx of tourists, there is no doubt that this is one of the most beautiful views in Thailand. The water here is amazing clear and the green vegetation on the rocky island catches everyone's eyes.

### River Kwai

The River Kwai flows through western Thailand and is famous for its legendary bridge built across the river. During World War II, a railway to Burma was built and is now called the "death railway", because it lost lives during its construction almost 100,000 people.

The river is also adapted to tourism. It is possible to go downhill on rafts and or sleep in floating hotels. There is a lot along its length remarkable places, including waterfalls, caves, etc.

### Ang Thong National Park

National parks are a great choice to discover what Thailand has to offer and enjoy a holiday without the crowds of tourists. One of the beautiful national parks is Ang Thong, which lies near the tourist island of Koh Samui and Ko Pha Ngan. Despite the fact that there are a lot of trips here every day, you can find a place where there are fewer tourists. A great option is to stay in camps directly in the park and rent a kayak for your own exploration.

The main islands are not far from each other. During the kayak ride, we have rocks, deserted beaches and all kinds of vegetation, an incredible feast for the eyes.

### Chiang Rai Temple

The White Temple, named Wat Rong Khun, is a major attraction near Chiang Rai. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in northern Thailand. If you expect it to be hundreds of years old historic buildings, you will be surprised. The temple was built in 1997. Its white color symbolizes the Buddha's purity, and the embedded mirrors, on the contrary, wisdom.

If you come here on your way, be sure to use the public toilets, which are the only ones in the world made of gold.

### Chiang Mai City

Chiang Mai is located in the north of Thailand and is the second largest after Bangkok. It is located about 700 km from the capital. It is a tourist and economic center, which, with its almost 250,000 inhabitants, has retained the characteristics of the countryside.

Tourists use the city as a base for visiting nearby attractions. In the vicinity, we can visit about 300 Buddhist temples, ride through the jungle of elephants, visit orchid farms or snake and butterfly farms, or climb the highest mountain in Thailand Doi Inthanon with a height of 2,554 m.

A visit to the city itself is recommended in November when the Loy Krathong festival takes place, during which people release thousands of lanterns of fortune.
