The Losail circuit, located in the Qatari desert, held its first Grand Prix in October 2004, which was won by Sete Gibernau. In 2008, the first illuminated Grand Prix in the history of the MotoGP World Championship took place in Qatar, and since 2007 it has been the inaugural race of the season in the GP calendar.
